While many Do It Yourselfers want to DO all aspects of their project, sometimes the hardest part is to get started. Being prepared and knowing all the possible floor plan options becomes mentally satisfying and gives the strength to move forward.
In under 1 hour, Prism's special program created a detailed bathroom floor plan, inserted multiple size/item arrangements, and provided the client with plans to submit to the city. These plans got the clients contractors all on the same page and get accurate subcontractor estimates! THE BEST PART....is the program makes a 3D interactive space that immersed the client in the bathroom space which allowed for a true interactive feeling that solidified layout plans.
Prism is excited to help brainstorm and provide plans that will get you on your way to a finished project! Maybe you are not ready for a full plans package from an architect,
maybe you have a small space and know the layout just need drawings,
or maybe obstacles that can not be moved strictly dictate the layout.
Prism can provide plans, suggest layouts, and even amend plans on site if designs need to change during the buil
This small outdoor shower was designed with only three legs due to foundation obstructions and to maximize internal space. The client moved into this home with the shower already installed and wanted to make it private and enclose the space. Design parameters for this cozy 4foot by 4foot shower must include a bench, Venetian style pergola, shelf, and hooks for hanging. Obstacles that must be avoided were 2 dryer vent exhausts, 2 sprinkler lines, and the view from the neighbors 2nd story window.
Need a unique display like this podium?
Industrial swiveling multi-level footrest stool? This is my personal welding chair, it always sits sturdy on three legs, is heavy duty, and an ergonomic butt shape swivel top makes it comfortable to lean against or sit on.
Prism has a quick and precise technique to transpose your picture onto wood and make it look professional. This technique was used on all the cabinet grade plywood projects below.
Another fun project was the multipurpose box for a bean bag room. This table was made for a hardcore ski enthusiast so it can be sat on, used as an end table, even written on the inside to leave love notes behind!
The hardware installer of this newly renovated bathroom had over tighten the overflow drain and cracked the porcelain. While the client saw a small rust spot appear, the full effects of what happen did not appear until a year later. Prism saw this rust hole while re-doing the caulking around the tub. The client, frustrated, said to ignore it because every contractor and handyman she called has told her she needs to replace the steel bathtub and lower portion of the tile. Minimum, a $2,000-4,000K job she does not have the money for right now.
Prism Engineer offered a fix, then laid out the Risk vs. Reward. The risk is $200 for Prism to try an unorthodox style repair now, and the reward is many years even decades of a normal leak free bathtub. The other option is to let the hole continue to grow while water leaks behind the bathtub and risk not only replacing the bathtub and tile, but also unseen black mold and water issues that spread unknowingly every time water is running.
Using a special JB Weld filling technique, painting with an automotive enamel, then clear-coating, this fix has lasted over 3 years without a sign of rust.
This client wanted to replace his wood floors with wood that matched the rest of the home. The floor was also slopped and crowned in spots by over 2inch difference from the entry floor level. After receiving confirmation of the floors structural integrity, Prism tore out the old floor, removed unused knob and tube electrical, then added sister joists to re-level the floor. Rockwool*** insulation was installed, 3/4inch plywood was laid, and the clients third party flooring company installed the final oak wood floors.
Prism is very open to collaborating with other contractors to complete a project such as this one, or to aide another contractor in completing a project more efficiently and in a timely manner.
***Rockwool insulation costs a bit more then the standard pink batting fiberglass, but has many more advantages. The sound deadening qualities are exponentially better, especially in this second story floor, it is fireproof up to 1800+degrees, and repels moisture.

This client had a play set she sold to a friend. However, the friend lives 10 miles away. Prism Engineer measured and asked the right questions which determined it must be completely disassembled to fit it into the yard at the friends home in Nahant MA. Low hanging trees, cables, and the critically narrow width gate at the destination, determined the most efficient and easiest method of transporting. Many bolts were rusted and got replaced, as well as and awning support needed welded. Prism fixed everything and reassembled in minimal amount of time.
This build was exciting and required some technically demanding methods to make the rendered photos match what is possible in reality. While anything is possible, budget is always a concern. Determining the wants, needs, and wishes of the client's little girl, Prism created the rendered photos of what the nook could look like. After two rendered drawings, we narrowed in on the clients favorite design elements and Prism wrapped up this project with a few fun elements that cost less then $50, but add great functionality and a customized look. Two outlet/USB hubs for electronics and motion sensing multicolor LEDS with remote that provide the perfect glow for the little girls sleep overs!
After submitting a render of what this could become, Prism was given the opportunity to bring this Detroit Michigan Mansion to reality. The project goal was to convert an old truck loading dock into a home theater. With the clients vision in mind, certain aspects were added to keep the area functional, keep the rustic era feeling, and keep costs down. This area is intended for entertaining and live performances. The industrial style untreated wood can surely take the abuse and will naturally give that perfect distressed worn look. Sound deadening panels were also built and mounted to the ceiling to help with the acoustics of the room.
Chicken Coops are becoming very popular in the city. While you can buy new pre-fab coops or build your own, you can also transform a kids playhouse into a chicken coop like this client wanted. With the play house resembling their home, Prism Engineer gave some chic farmhouse feel to the space. Distressing the tin metal roof, facelift of the front porch, and added a nesting box and a large robust chicken run.
As winter came around, the client wanted an automatic shutting door to keep the warmth in and dangerous pests out. Prism was ready to source a timed automatic closing coupe door, framed and install it, then handed it off to the client with full instructions on how the automatic coop door will work. Prism offers complementary future support for simple electronic options that might get confusing or forgotten in the near future.
Collaboration projects are fun when both parties can bank off each others ideas! This client had a slab of mill cut black walnut wood and wanted it made into a bathroom counter. While on a tight budget, she only wanted to do parts of the bathroom to give it a more modern touch. New tile floors, live edge countertop, and a fresh coat of paint kept the budget down and allowed the bathroom to feel like a masterpiece rather then an eye sore.
